Before the snow claims our landscape, many Northeast Ohioans are trying to make the most of fair weather. Nothing is quite as fulfilling as a weekend trip, as it offers one the opportunity to indulge in a variety of activities and still relax in your own home after a few busy days. The entirety of Northeast Ohio is overflowing with epic places to visit, and many are under two hours from Cleveland. It features a ginormous cuckoo clock, Amish and Swiss gift shops and bakeries, and fascinating museums and antique shops.

Malabar Farm is a historic home and farm in the Pleasant Valley that once hosted author Louis Bromfield. The site also hides fascinating points of interest like The Ceely Rose House, a home where a triple homicide once occurred, and sites that were featured in the movie The Shawshank Redemption.

Three incredible earthen mounds decorate the site, dating to between 100 CE and 500 CE. You may not realize that this site is the official prehistoric monument of the State of Ohio, but you’ll certainly realize its significance as you are dwarfed by these earthen structures. They were constructed by the Hopewell culture well before Europeans arrived in our region, and they have remained despite the sands of time. As the largest surviving Hopewell earthwork site in the nation, this pretty place is well worth the journey.
