Us Texans have more pride than all the other states combined, so admitted anything negative about our homeland is harder than pulling teeth. That being said, there are some things that just can’t be denied. The following are 10 brutally honest statements about Texas that couldn’t be more true.

  1. Sometimes we cancel plans because the thought of sitting in traffic all day is just too much to bear.

Flickr/PINKE Sure, we might tell a white lie or two to cover ourselves, but any guilt we may feel quickly dissipates after picturing I-10 on a Saturday.

  1. Sometimes we pick the bluebonnets.

Flickr/DamezPhotos We know it’s wrong and that they’ll die in a matter of days, but it’s hard to resist when they’re so beautiful!

  1. We don’t always stop at Buc-ee’s.

Flickr/timklapdor Sure, it has the cleanest bathrooms on earth — but what if we don’t even have to go? Or what if we have to go RIGHT NOW and Buc-ee’s is 50 miles away? Sometimes, it’s just easier to pull into the Shell station right off the highway.

  1. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to get sick of barbecue.

Flickr/wallyg An abundance of grease and salt for every meal gets old after a while. Luckily, we have plenty of other options like Tex-Mex, chili, chicken-fried steak, and breakfast tacos here in Texas to satisfy our taste buds.

  1. We don’t all ride our horses everywhere.

Flickr/abqtrucker Heck, most of us don’t even own a horse for that matter. That being said, sometimes it’s easier to just go with the flow when strangers ask us the inevitable question. The look on their faces is priceless.

  1. Some things about our state are just plain dumb.

Flickr/span112 For example, did you know that it’s technically illegal to consume more than three sips of beer while standing up? I guess that makes us all criminals.

  1. Texas is just too darn big.

Flickr/alex-s Some people can take day trips to other states. We take road trips complete with multiple nights in hotels and a whole lot of planning. Enough said.

  1. Everything about our state is beautiful… except some of the beaches.

Flickr/saintseminole We may not be able to argue that Galveston is prettier than Malibu, but that’s okay. Texas is still the best country in the United States.

  1. We go a little overboard with the state pride sometimes — but we love it that way.

Flickr/fuschia_foot Texas-shaped waffles, tortilla chips, cheeses… even we can admit it’s a little much. But that doesn’t mean we have any intention of stopping!

  1. Our portion sizes are a bit, uh, large.

Flickr/davehensley Do we really NEED a chicken-fried steak that takes up half a dinner plate? Probably not. Are we going to stop eating them any time soon? Negatory.

Did we miss anything? What other brutally honest things about Texas will only be admitted by us natives? Let us know!
