You never know what you’ll find when driving around South Carolina. We have some really unique houses you can pass that are guaranteed to make you do a double take. You can also end up straining your neck at a few other bizarre and oversized attractions. How many of the attractions below have you seen in person?
- UFO Welcome Center
Google Maps/J Tyson There’s a lot to see at the UFO welcome center, including the massive spaceship sitting several feet from a main road. It’s the life’s work of a local resident and one of the most visited attractions around. Getting to it is an easy drive from Interstate 26, but make sure your phone is charged! (In case this is the ONE time an alien is actually at this odd welcome center!) Find it at 4004 Homestead Rd., Bowman, SC 29018.
- The Peachoid
Flickr/anokarina Move over Georgia, America’s biggest peach producing state is actually South Carolina. And to prove it, we have a colossal peach-shaped water tower beside busy Interstate 85. The Peachoid is 135 feet tall had holds one million gallons of water. It’s located on Peachoid Road, between exits 90 and 92 on I-85.

- King Kong
Flickr/Doug Kerr There are quite a few gawk-worthy things at the I-95 attraction called South of the Border, and Kong is one of our absolute favorites. Find him at South of the Border, 3346 U.S. 301, Hamer, SC 29547.
- Giant Turkey(s)

The shops around Courthouse Square in historic Edgefield have a series of giant turkeys outside greeting locals and tourists alike. Don’t worry if you miss this spectacle at Thanksgiving… the turkeys are here year-round. Find them in Edgefield. You can read more in this previous article.
- The World’s Largest Fire Hydrant
Flickr/Jason Eppink The four-story fire hydrant located on Taylor Street (between Marion and Bull) in Columbia is an art installation by Blue Sky, a local artist. It weighs 675,000 pounds, and comes complete with a construction barrier wall (since the fire hydrant is depicted as broken). The construction barrier wall is also part of the giant sculpture. - Giant Teapot
Js Tearific Museum Don’t scuff at this oddly shaped structure. Sure, on the outside it’s (just) a big tea pot, but through that door sits the world’s largest teapot collection. It’s located at 2734 Cleveland St., Elloree, SC 29047. (Open by appointment only: (803) 829-2944.) You can read more in this previous article.
- Eddie from EdVenture
Flickr/ Yeonsang Eddie is located on the first floor of the largest children’s museum in the Southeast, located in Columbia. He’s in interactive exhibit that children can climb into and and learn about anatomy. Find him inside EdVenture at 211 Gervais St., Columbia, SC 29201.
- Giant crab
TripAdvisor/management Tommy the giant crab welcomes hungry guests to the Giant Crab Seafood Restaurant in Myrtle Beach. Find it at 9597 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC.
