We wrote a while back about the most ridiculous Florida laws that you won’t believe are real, and that was an enlightening experience. Who knew that in Sarasota you had to pay to keep your elephant tied to a parking meter? Anyways, in the spirit of ridiculousness, consider this a part II of sorts. There is a very good chance that you have unknowingly broken these laws at least once in your lifetime.
- Strolling in Hialeah? Yeah, it’s a misdemeanor.
Flickr Andrey Are you taking a stroll in Hialeah, Florida? Well, technically that is illegal. Strolling and/or ambling is technically considered a misdemeanor and can land you in serious hot water. So, just make sure not to leisurely enjoy walking your dog, okay?
- Termite Farms within Miami’s city limits are illegal.
Flickr Tom Clifton Don’t try to start up a new hobby here because you’ll be in trouble. Ant farms—cool. Termite farms? Absolutely not.
- Do not bring your pet pigs to Miami Beach, it’s illegal.
Flickr Nicholas Erwin They don’t care if this little piggy wants to go to the beach, because it’s illegal to bring your pet pig to Miami Beach. It doesn’t matter if it needs a tan or not.
- Make sure to bring some cash when you go to Pensacola.
Flickr Kurtis Garbutt Did you know that being broke in Pensacola may be considered a crime? That is, if you’re walking around downtown. A weird, outdated law in Pensacola states that people are not allowed to be downtown with less than $10 with them.
- Plant Advocates, Unite!
Flickr Demond handy Daytona Beach—it is considered a public nuisance to own a flower pot that you water that is not able to drain itself. Someone cares an awful lot about drowning plants.
- Don’t air dry your underwear.
Flickr Bruce Guenter If you’re in Cape Coral and need to dry your drawers in a pinch, do not hang them outside to dry. It is a violation of a city ordinance to air out your underwear.
- Trash cans are solely for trash, nothing more.
Flickr Matthew Peoples This one is quite a doozy. In Daytona Beach there is an actual law that states the molestation of trash cans is strictly forbidden. And when they say forbidden, they don’t mean in a forbidden romance, Romeo and Juliet sort of way. It’s a trash can.
- Breaking plates is illegal, if you’re doing it a lot.
Flickr Eric Allix Rogers Just in case you’re ready to go on a smashing spree, it’s against Florida law to break more than three plates or dishes per day. OR to crack and/or chip the edges of more than four cups and saucers. There goes that Greek destination wedding idea.
- Rats cannot leave ships in Tampa.
Flickr Le Tarte au Citron In Tampa Bay, the law actually prohibits rats to leave ships that have docked in the harbor. So if you see a rat with a passport and tiny suitcase on your next cruise into town, you might want to tell him.
- Prostitution is illegal…and there’s more

The part that is weird is that the punishment for being caught prostituting is a five-year banishment from the state of Florida, plus a bus ticket out of town. What’s more is that the offender is also given spending money. Sounds almost like a vacation if you ask me.
- Don’t try to fish and drive.
Flickr Thomas Hawk Driving across a bridge in Florida? Don’t you dare try to cast a fishing line. Not only does it sound like it would be insanely difficult to do, but it is also against the law. Fishing while driving—not a good idea.
