A new expected record to be set, 2018’s busy summer marks a 3.7% increase in passengers from last year’s numbers - with 2017 having 237.3 million flyers on American airlines. According to the group, the significant increase in flyers this summer is said to be in relation to the fact that airfares are so low and more routes have been added to air travel. Experiencing historically low airfares, Airlines For America reports that the price of domestic air travel has gone down a whopping 12.5% in the last four years.
