Here in Ohio, we have some pretty epic foods that you just can’t find anywhere else. The following are 7 foods that you likely grew up eating if you’ve lived here all your life—and you likely still crave them to this day.
See how many your recognize:
- Buckeyes
Steven Depolo/Flickr Usually made around the holidays, this signature homemade Ohio candy is downright mouthwatering to peanut butter and chocolate lovers. As kids, these made Reese’s Cups look like a joke.
- Frisch’s Big Boy Burger
Facebook/Frisch’s Big Boy When you’re on the road and you want a tasty burger, (without all the grease), nothing compares to the original Big Boy. McDonald’s and Burger King don’t hold a candle to this Ohio classic.
- Frisch’s Big Boy Hot Fudge Cake
Facebook/Frisch’s Big Boy (We all know the REAL reason we wanted to go to Frisch’s Big Boy as kids though.)
- The 3-Way…
Chiot’s Run/Flickr Spaghetti noodles, heaps of shredded cheddar cheese and chili with a hint of cinnamon come together to create this interesting dish. The Cincinnati area’s Skyline Chili chain challenges the norm, and many (though not all) find it delicious.
- …and cheese conies
LW Yang/Flickr If the 3-way isn’t your preference, Skyline’s cheese conies (topped with the signature chili, onions, mustard and mounds of cheese) are an excellent alternative.
- Wendy’s frosty with fries
h. r. williams/Flickr No matter what anyone tries to tell you, we started the genius frosty-french-fry-combo creation—just like we started the beloved fast food chain itself. (And watching adults do this was a game changer.)
- Troyer’s Trail Bologna and swiss cheese sandwich
Cafe Jenny/Flickr There’s no bologna like Troyer’s Trail Bologna. A fried Trail bologna sandwich with Swiss cheese really hits the spot. This dish is particularly popular in Holmes, Tuscarawas and Wayne Counties.
