Are you afraid of a little snow? There’s a lot of beautiful Kansas trails that look just as good with snow as they do in the spring. It’s a magical time of year, and one blanket of white can turn your favorite trail into a winter wonderland. If you decide to check out these trails after a snow, make sure to show us your photos at our Kansas Nature Lovers Facebook group!

  1. Shawnee Mission Park Orange, Violet, and Red Trail

Chad Way/Google This 6.5 mile trail through the scenic Shawnee Mission Park only gets more beautiful once a field of white covers the grass and water.

  1. Clinton Lake North Shore Loop

Patrick Emerson/Flickr Clinton lake is always stunning, especially with a wide open view of the sky, but winter really brings things out. Eagle nests pop up when the weather gets colder, and a lake covered in snow makes everything picture perfect for this 2.8 mile trail.

  1. Mushroom Rock State Park Trail

T Hoyt/Google Everyone’s favorite giant mushroom covered in snow and surrounded by a blanket - gorgeous! The little 0.2 mile trail around here is fun to stomp around as well.

  1. Coronado Heights Trail

Subho Saha/Google Remember our favorite castle? Imagine it with piles of snow along the 2 miles of trial and miniature castle and picnic area.

  1. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve - Southwind Nature Trail

Bob Duran/Flickr This beautiful prairie has hills full of grasses, but when they’re covered in a thick layer of snow, they really get magical. This 2.9 mile trail is one of our best, in any weather.

  1. Elk City State Park - Elk River Hiking Trail

Granger Meador/Flickr 14.1 miles of frozen water and icy trees makes this a hard to walk yet beautiful trail. Maybe bring out special shoes and a spiked walking stick.

  1. Kanopolis State Park - Horse Thief Trail

Vincent Parsons/Flickr 1.9 miles of red rocks and white snow make for a slightly slippery yet beautiful hike. Imagine how beautiful it’ll be from the top of the hill!

If you’re looking for some good scenery for winter photography instead of trails, you’ll find that these beautiful winter parks are a little easier to travel.
