Every Washingtonian has experienced the strange feeling of going back to their hometown or a city they loved only to find that it looks drastically different. And while some change is a part of life, we’re lucky enough to have some charming towns that seem almost frozen in time. Here’s where to go when you need a little consistency.

  1. Snohomish

Joe Wolf / Flickr Known for its historic downtown area and abundance of antique shops, Snohomish has been named one of the Top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America. They know better than to try and mess with perfection here.

  1. La Conner

Love La Conner Facebook Charming, inviting and positively delightful, you can count on this Skagit County gem to cheer you up on a dreary day… and you can count on it looking the same as always.

  1. Connell

Jasperdo / Flickr We’re pretty sure Connell has looked exactly the same since the beginning of time (or at least since it was founded in the late 1800s). But no one in this little agricultural hub seems to mind.

  1. Ilwaco

Curtis Cronn / Flickr This sleepy little fishing village on the Long Beach Peninsula seems to be frozen in time, and somehow that only adds to its charm.

  1. Poulsbo

Historic Downtown Poulsbo Facebook You can always count on a stroll through Washington’s Little Norway to be nice and nostalgic. From the classic bakeries to the shops and murals, it will always look just as you remember it.

  1. Colfax

Jasperdo / Flickr This little Whitman County gem is firmly rooted in agriculture and small town values. The neighboring city of Pullman might be growing and changing, but Colfax remains the small farming town it always was.

  1. Port Townsend

Jasperdo / Flickr You might notice new restaurants and shops replacing some of the older spots, but for the most part, our old Victorian seaport never changes (and we’re glad).

  1. Steilacoom

Steilacoom Farmers Market Facebook Steilacoom is the oldest incorporated Washington town, so obviously it has seen some changes over the years. However, you’ll still find plenty of historic buildings, including homes from the 1850s.

Washington has so many charming small towns. These are a few that are especially locally loved.
