In one week, we once again celebrate the day America became an independent nation. There will be cookouts, celebrations and, of course, fireworks. So for 2018, these are the cities with the best fireworks displays in the state.

  1. Morgantown

Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau The Celebration of America Committee is having a their Fourth of July celebration from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in downtown Morgantown. It will kick off with a parade down High Street.

  1. Fayetteville

Visit Fayetteville The Fayetteville Lion’s Club will host a two-day celebration beginning July 3. There will be vendors, food, live music, a watermelon spitting contest, a cobbler baking contest and a hula hooping contest. The fireworks show will begin at dusk on July 4.

  1. Wheeling

Flickr/jeff_golden Following Wheeling tradition, the Fourth of July celebration in Wheeling will feature of performance by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, followed by riverfront fireworks at Wheeling Heritage Port. The celebration runs from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

  1. Oglebay Resort, Wheeling

Oglebay Resort The Oglebay Resort in Wheeling will have its own Independence Day celebration from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be a 5k run/walk, inflatable rides and live entertainment, culminating with a brilliant fireworks display.

  1. Alderson

Facebook/Alderson’s Fourth of July Celebration The city of Alderson will be celebrating the Fourth all day at Alderson Memorial Football Field. Festivities will include a parade, a hot dog eating contest, a pageant to crown Miss Fireworks and other contestants, and a tug-of-war. At 7 p.m., musical group The Avalons will take the stage, with the fireworks show to follow at 10:15 p.m.

  1. Ripley

Facebook/Ripley 4th of July Celebration Commonly referred to as “USA’s Largest Small Town Independence Day Celebration,” Ripley hosts the oldest Independence Day parade, dating back to the 1800s. This year, there will be live music and entertainment on the stage at the Jackson County Courthouse Lawn. This day-long celebration, featuring a carnival and food vendors, will conclude with a fireworks show at 10:00 p.m.

  1. Beckley

City of Huntington Huntington’s celebration will occur on July 3rd. The gates to Harris Riverfront Park will open at 5 p.m. and there will be live music by several bands with Chris Lane as the headliner. The fireworks show will begin at 10:00 p.m.
