Life in Wyoming is a little different than life anywhere else, and when you grow up here, a few childhood habits stick around forever. Read a few undeniable Wyoming habits below and see if they’re a part of your lifestyle, too.
- Keeping the doors unlocked.
Flickr / Jen Gallardo Why bother locking the door? Fishing for keys is a nuisance - even if your neighbors are close enough to come bother you, nobody around here messes with anyone else.
- Constantly scanning the bar ditch.
Flickr / Grand Teton Pronghorn, mule deer and elk like to appear in front of your car at the worst possible moment. Wyomingites are always scanning the sides of the road for a daredevil deer looking to play chicken with their truck.
- Keeping your car trunk full… of everything.
Flickr / State Farm Winter can appear out of nowhere, so Wyomingites pack their trunks full year-round. Coats, sweaters, socks, blankets, t-shirts, water, snacks… we’ve got pretty much anything you’d need right behind our back seat.
- Carrying bear spray.
Flickr / The Real Cloud2013 When you live in bear country, it becomes a quick habit to pack a can of this stuff whenever you’re going to stray from your car.
- Speeding
Flickr / Doug Kerr When all your highways look like this, how could you not speed? Chances are if you get stuck behind someone in “traffic”, it’s a Greenie coming to ruin your day.
- Leaving the car on
Flickr / Alex Proimos Turning a car off for even a few minutes while you run into the store means getting back in to a freezing cold vehicle. Skip the shivering and just let it run… you’ll only be a minute, anyway.
- Avoiding crowds.
Flickr / John and James Knight We live out here because we’d rather have our space, thank you very much.
- Dressing in layers.
Flickr / BlurMEDIA Stock 30 degree temperature swings are the norm in Wyoming, and our wind can pick up out of nowhere. If you’ve only got one layer of clothes on, you’ll realize your mistake immediately.
- Packing heat.
Flickr / Paul Weaver It’s pretty much a given that in any Wyoming town, there are more guns than people. With a huge number of concealed carry and open carry permits issued, guns are about as common as socks out here. Once you’re used to having a gun on your hip, you’ll feel naked without it.
