Although the sun is setting earlier, there is still time to get outside and enjoy the last warm days of the summer season. In fact, just because the pools have closed doesn’t mean you can’t have anymore aquatic fun. Head to the state’s largest lake and jump in your kayak to explore this amazing aquatic trail. You’ll have so much fun, you may just forget you’re getting some great exercise too!

In Missouri’s largest state park on the state’s largest lake is a totally unique trail to explore. The Lake of the Ozarks aquatic trail is a well marked water trail that can be explored by kayak, boat, or jet ski.

Bring your own kayaks or rent some from the state park marina. Once you have you gear, you’ll be ready to take on the trail.

Each of the trail’s 14 stops are marked with an orange and white buoy. The 9 mile trail is well marked but may be challenging if you’re not an avid kayaker.

Take some time to enjoy the calm waters of the smaller arms on the lake. As you work your way towards the 14th marker you’re likely to encounter more boat traffic.

September is the perfect time to explore this trail. After Labor Day there are fewer boats on the lake, making kayaking, canoeing, and jet skiing a little easier.

You’ll see some interesting natural formations along the trail. There’s a cave, an opening in the rocks that was used as an old logging chute, and a rock arch, just to name a few. Remember to watch for the buoys that mark the sights as you paddle along.

Public Beach #1 is open for swimming until September 16th. However, the rentals at the marina are available by appointment only in September and October. The trail can be accessed by boat from sunrise until sunset, daily.
