Nevada is a paradise for those who love exploring old ghost towns. We are home to a countless number of these abandoned towns ranging from indecipherable ruins to perfectly preserved reminders of the past. Most, if not all, of these towns are the product of the West’s 19th century gold and silver rush that brought so many boom towns to fruition…only to destroy them when the mines went dry. These towns are a deep part of Nevada’s history, and our state would definitely not be the place it is today without them. The surprisingly preserved ghost town featured here is a must for adventurers. The town contains both unrecognizable ruins and handsome structures that are still standing to this day. It’s like walking through Nevada’s living, breathing history.

The ghost town of Belmont suffered the same tragic history as many other ex-mining towns in Nevada. Located north of Tonopah, the remnants of this town remain as a reminder of the most tumultuous and fascinating era in our state’s history.

Belmont’s unique remains have made this ghost town an iconic adventure in the Silver State. At one time, this town was one of the most bustling cities in Nevada…and it shows. To this day you can view some incredibly preserved buildings like saloons, mills, a post office, and more.

It’s actually hard to believe that many of the buildings are more than 150 years old. Although some of the structures have succumbed to the effects of time, others seem like they are in good working condition even to this day.

For example, the Belmont Courthouse is considered to be the town’s “crown jewel”. The building went under renovation a few years back and the structure itself looks good as new. This historic gem is open to the public for tours by appointment.

You’ll be surprised to find that Belmont is actually home to a handful of full-time residents. However, the town is completely off-grid. You won’t find any electricity, gas, or food nearby, so come prepared.

Visitors could easily spend hours upon hours exploring everything that this great little ghost town has to offer. Remnants of the incredible Monitor-Belmont Mill still remain, including the large and towering chimney that was used for target practice by Tonopah Air Force Base during World War II.

The remote aspect of this town makes visiting here feel like an escape from reality. There’s nothing like surrounding yourself in the peace and quiet of an abandoned ghost town to really put your mind at ease.
