Some of the state’s best restaurants are also the most unassuming – and if you need proof, pay a visit to Bob’s Sandwich Shop. The Brookhaven eatery is housed in an inconspicuous, metal building, so it’d be easy to pass by but you definitely don’t want to do that. Take a look:

This is Bob’s Sandwich Shop. It first opened back in the 1940s under the name Marshall’s and has been a Brookhaven favorite ever since.

As you probably guessed from the name, the eatery’s menu is full of sandwiches. Enjoy a sandwich on a bun or toast, fill up on an overstuffed po’boy, or chow down on a perfectly grilled burger.

The menu also contains something you probably wouldn’t expect to find – a flat hot dog. Flat, delicious, and undeniably unique, it’s made by topping a hot dog with chili then pressing it flat and toasting it on a griddle.

Matt W./Foursquare You can even order variations of the flat hot dog, such as The Deluxe, which includes chili, cheese, onion, and mustard. According to the restaurant, the flat hot dog is the most popular menu item, with some customers ordering them by the dozen!

Not in the mood for sandwiches or hot dogs? That’s okay; there are also salads and seafood baskets.
