The following mini-trail proves, once and for all, that not all trails have to be strenuous or long to deliver a huge payout. And while it’s true there is a sense of personal accomplishment attained from working for hours and sweating bullets on a hard trail that winds to the top of a mountain, there are times when it’s okay to get the payout without all the work.

The overlook at the visitors center of Caesars Head State Park is one of those “trails” that, in just a few moments, you’ll find yourself at the top of the world. From here, you’ll feel like a king or queen surveying your kingdom.

Beginning with the moment you turn onto the road leading up the mountain to the state park, you’ll get a sense that something big is coming. That’s because the trek up the mountain is all uphill and delivers peek-a-boo views through the lush green trees as you wind toward the end game: the visitor’s center parking lot.

From your spot in front of the visitor center it is a short “hike” along a paved walk that transitions into the trail to the overlook.

If you have novice hikers or older family members along they’ll appreciate the ease of this hike you’ve picked out “just for them.”

(Be advised of potentially the unsure footing atop the rock that makes up the overlook!)
