Yellowstone National Park is one of Wyoming’s most prized natural gems, and one of the best ways to explore it is on foot. Here’s a pretty hiking trail that meanders right along a creek all the way to a stunning lake in the forest.
The trailhead for one of the prettiest trails in Yellowstone National Park is right on the side of the Grand Loop Road, just 10 miles east of Old Faithful. You’ll see the trailhead sign across the street from the parking area.

This trail is a beautiful, shady trail that’s perfect when you’re looking for a bit of respite from the blazing sun. You’ll be immersed in the lodgepole forest from the very beginning of the trail.

Delacy Creek Trail is considered easy, and should be appropriate for most hikers. The trail is 5.8 miles out and back, so allow several hours to enjoy it. The trail meanders alongside the creek for most of the way.

You’ll occasionally emerge from the trees into grassy meadows, surrounded by pines under the bluest of skies. This is Yellowstone country at its finest.

…until you arrive at the lake. Shoshone Lake is a backcountry lake that covers 8,050 acres. It’s the largest backcountry lake that has no road access. Bring a picnic and plan to hang out on the shores of this beautiful lake before returning along the footpath.
