There is truly no better way to spend an afternoon than with a leisurely hike in one of our breathtaking state parks, and today, we’re taking you on an unforgettable journey along one of the most enchanting trails in the state.
Welcome to Killens Pond State Park and the phenomenal loop trail you will find within its border. Established as a state park in 1965, Killens Pond preserves and protects an area of mature broadleaf forest surrounding its namesake pond.

The moderately trafficked 2.7-mile Killens Pond Loop Trail circles the 66-acre millpond that was established in the late 1700s. Before the pond was created, the Murderkill River and surrounding forest were home to several Native American homes and hunting camps.

Though the meandering trail is not paved, its short mileage, well-maintained status, and packed earth surface make this the perfect hike for the entire family. Kids especially will love scampering through the forest and over footbridges.

Killens Pond Loop Trail gains less than 100 feet over the course of it’s 2.8-mile loop, but there are steps built in to the forest floor to help out in some of the steeper areas.

Conveniently located in central Delaware, you will find the trailhead in front of the Nature Center. Though the lush forest found here in the summer months is ethereal, there’s something special about visiting in the fall as the leaves are changing colors. Don’t forget your camera!

Killens Pond Loop Trail is located within Killens Pond State Park, which is located at 5025 Killens Pond Rd., Felton, DE 19943. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset and costs $4 for Delaware residents and $8 for out of state cars.
