The trail was created over a decade ago by a local carpenter named Joel Slaton, who dedicated the artwork to found trash within the preserve.

Slaton encouraged visitors to create their own art along the trail with what was found, but put in place a few rules in order to preserve the sanctity of the area.

Artists are also encouraged not to make anything dangerous out of their artwork—no glass bottles or sharp edges—in order to keep the trail as kid friendly as possible.
