When traveling through New York, it feels like nearly every road you trek upon is one that’s a scenic drive you’ll never forget. While Whiteface Veterans Memorial Highway is a popular road to explore in the Adirondack Mountains, there’s another mountain that you can drive up as well that you shouldn’t let fall under your radar.
Right in the heart of Lake George, Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway is a scenic drive you won’t want to pass up on.

Starting just off of Route 9, the scenic 5.5-mile-long drive winds up Prospect Mountain.

Along the drive up you’ll find three major overlooks - The Narrows, Lake George Panorama, and The Eagle’s Eye.

Once you reach the top of the road, you’ll find a parking lot where you can leave your car. From here, you can take a shuttle to the summit or choose to explore the mountain by foot.

All along the top of the mountain, you’ll find picnic tables that have amazing views.

You’ll also find pieces of history that you can dive into at the summit as well, with historical markers pointing out where the old Prospect Mountain House used to be - an Adirondack hotel that was once on the summit and sadly burned down twice.

Visitors will also see the old cable railway that was situated here and was once even the world’s largest cable railroad.
