Today, we’ll introduce (or perhaps re-introduce) you to the community of Friendsville. This charming little farm town has plenty to offer, and it may be just the escape you’re looking for.
Tucked away in Garrett County awaits a hidden gem of a town that’s the perfect embodiment of Western Maryland at its finest. Incorporated in 1902, this town has a population just shy of 500.

While you might assume Friendsville is named for its friendly small town (and who could blame you?) the area is actually named for the area’s first European settler, John Friend.

A walk through downtown will showcase picturesque churches, friendly storefronts, a classic pharmacy, and a few restaurants and cafes where you can sit and watch the world go by.

Friendsville also features a community park, which is even more breathtaking in the fall. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll or outdoor picnic when the weather’s nice.

The crown jewel of the Friendsville area is the Youghiogheny Overlook. This beautiful vista can actually be admired from the Welcome Center along I-68 Eastbound.
