Today, the hotel is still accepting guests. It’s actually doing quite well for itself, and during recent years has upgraded to more modern accommodations. The atmosphere now has a unique blend of both old and new that makes guests feel right at home.

Fascinatingly, guests can even sleep in the original hotel rooms that date back to 1861. These rooms may be a bit smaller than the modern day additions, but they contain a certain historic charm that you can’t help but fall in love with.

Back in its heyday, the hotel lodged all sorts of prominent figures that came through during the Gold Rush era. Who knows, you may even snag the very same room that Mark Twain himself stayed in so many years ago.
