Pete Savas was a Greek immigrant who built a little corner market in 1947. It was a place where folks could stop by to pick up a gallon of milk, loaf of bread, or some fresh produce. Pete passed away in 1953, but the Savas family continues to own and operate the market.

In the 1970s, the family added a little deli in the back of the store, and today it’s one of the best places to get a sandwich in the state. You’ll find it at 1906 Main St., Salt Lake City, UT 84115.

You’ll find the sandwich counter at the back of the store, tucked in amongst the bags of chips and drink coolers. During the lunch rush, there’s usually a long line, but it moves pretty quickly, and it’s well worth the wait.
