In New York, it isn’t just the warm weather that makes us anxiously waiting around for summer’s arrival — it’s also the food! Our favorite local farms begin to open up their stands for the year, and we begin to find ourselves uncontrollably drooling over the thought of things like fresh strawberries, peaches, and best of all… watermelon! Turning one tiny town into a total dreamland, mark your calendars and set aside this summer weekend when New York is the host of an amazing watermelon festival.
Take a drive out to the town of Mattituck and you’ll have the pleasure of discovering Harbes Family Farm — a charming destination that’s been around since 1978.

The younger crowd will enjoy things like the festival’s Seed Spitting Challenges, while the adults can sneak away to the Wine Barn to pair up their watermelon with some amazing wines.
