While many people view Makapu’u Beach from either the Makapu’u Lookout or the summit of the Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail, few visit the stunning beach nestled at the base of the sea cliffs. Trust us, though: this is one of the island’s best beaches, and you absolutely must visit.

As you look into the vast Pacific Ocean, you’ll be mesmerized by the sparkling blue water, but take a closer look: the views of the offshore Rabbit Island and the Makapu’u Lighthouse are hard to beat.

But be warned — rip currents and a dangerous shorebreak make this a destination better suited for body boarders and body surfers than novice swimmers. It’s also an excellent spot to simply admire Hawaii’s natural beauty and soak up the sun.
