The historic trail runs from New Freedom, just south of the Maryland border, to the York County Colonial Courthouse. (Or, you can hike it from York to New Freedom.)

Of course, the trail is popular with hikers. But, the ADA-trail also attracts bikers, joggers, walkers, cross-country skiers, and those on snowshoes.

The predominately flat trial passes through a number of communities, including Glen Rock and Seven Valleys, which offer plenty of amenities.

However, the trail itself features restrooms, picnic tables, and benches.

Use caution as you travel along the trail, which follows an operational railroad. You’ll also pass numerous historic places, including the New Freedom Train Station and the Howard Tunnel.

Park officials warn trail users to stay off of the railroad tracks at all times and to remain on the trail to avoid trespassing on private property.

Carve out time to visit the Hanover Junction and New Freedom Train Stations, both museums that are open on select days in the summer and in the fall.
