Sometime you go to a restaurant and are served such a large amount of food, you partially wonder if someone in the kitchen screwed up. Perhaps he or she misread the recipe and made the burger patties one and a half pounds, instead of just a half pound. But there is no mistake at the Huntington Ale House. You better arrive with an appetite.

Huntington Ale House has gone through many lives, mostly as nightclubs. It was known for years as Gumby’s, before becoming The Drop Shop for many years more. But the building’s club days are over. Now the focus has been pulled away from a club and set on food instead.

It is still pretty popular, almost as much as when it was club, but now it is popular for an entirely different reason.

At Huntington Ale House, there are no small portions of food. Their burgers are a prime example of this. The Rodeo Burger (pictured below) is especially hard to keep on the plate. It teeters on the edge, ready to topple over.

These thick, juicy burgers are piled high with various toppings, and the menu offers plenty of choices to satisfy your appetite. But you might have a bit of trouble opening your mouth wide enough to bite into some of these burgers, and the results can be messy. Not to worry, though - your server will provide you with plenty of napkins.

Some burgers have fairly typical toppings; others, not so much, such as the Dorito burger pictured below.

The menu offers 11 different burgers, but the offerings don’t stop there. There are plenty of appetizers to choose from, including wings, bacon cheddar cheese fries, potato skins, and stuffed mushrooms.

They also have a great selection of steaks and prime rib (pictured below), waffles, mac and cheese, chicken entrees, seafood, sandwiches and ribs.

Another big draw of the restaurant is their tap and craft beer selection. The popularity of craft beer is experiencing a renaissance in the city, and the Ale House has become a big part of that.
