The rocks at this special formation are one of a kind in Kansas, and the largest group of this type in the whole country. Rock City is a park that includes around 200 Dakota sandstone concretions. These were left behind after a giant rock holding all these little pieces eroded away, leaving these behind over the space of a couple football fields.

These formations range in size anywhere from 10-20 feet in diameter, and you’re encouraged to climb to your heart’s content. There’s plenty of cracks and crevices along the sides to help you get on top of even the largest ones.

Some of them even have holes, like this one named Donut Rock for instance. Some of them are even washing away underneath creating more rocks shaped like mushrooms.

It does cost a small fee to visit, which you can pay at the gift shop or leave in a bucket on the honor system if the shop is closed. Every dollar goes towards upkeep for the park and surrounding area.

It’s also next to Mushroom Rock State Park, where you’ll find that the more rocks there are, the merrier.
