Everyone knows that you can find great delis in New York City, but did you know that we have a deli right here in Oregon that’s serving legit corned beef on rye and other specialty deli foods? If you love authentic delis, you’ve got to head to Portland to visit Kenny & Zuke’s Delicatessen.

Kenny & Zuke’s Delicatessen has been making headlines for quite some time now. It was recently named as the Best Deli in Oregon by Food Network.

Owner Ken Gordon opened his own deli when he noticed that Portland was sorely lacking in proper Jewish deli food. His original restaurant, Ken’s Place, was soon packed to capacity every day, and he opened Kenny & Zuke’s to great acclaim.

Ken started with the pastrami, because everyone knows that a good Jewish deli features mouthwateringly good pastrami. He makes his own, using an old-school recipe, and it’s simply divine.

The star of the show here is the pastrami and corned beef on rye - a sandwich so huge that you’ll be lucky to finish half of it in one sitting.

An egg salad sandwich might not be your usual go-to when it’s lunchtime, but at Kenny & Zuke’s, this thing is a work of art.

Other favorites at Kenny & Zuke’s that you can’t just find anywhere else include matzo ball soup, homemade pickles, potato knish, chopped liver, and fresh-baked rye bread. Everything here is either homemade or sourced using the very best ingredients.

This is a popular spot for breakfast, too. Start your day off right by diving face first into The 222 - a plate piled high with two eggs, two slices of pastrami, two potato latkes, and rye toast.

When it’s time for dessert, a slice of homemade pie or cake should definitely be on your mind. While a Jewish grandmother probably won’t be there to insist that you have a slice, we’ll tell you right now that you should just do it - you’re looking too thin, and you need to keep up your strength, after all.
