New Hampshire has plenty of gorgeous campsites – but for those who are looking to really escape from it all and get in touch with nature, the presence of large, sometimes rowdy groups can be a distraction. If you don’t want to see people on cell phones or hear kids running around at the crack of dawn, we have just the campsites for you. They’re so remote that you’ll have to take a boat to get to them!
Umbagog Lake State Park is one of the newer New Hampshire state parks, and it’s a real gem – stark, largely untouched, and full of wildlife. If you haven’t yet visited, make your summer plans now!

The park has some fairly typical campsites, but it really stands out for its remote campsites, that can only be accessed by boat. You’re sure to remain undisturbed there! (And don’t worry – you don’t need a boat. You can, for a fee, be dropped off by park staff).

If you prefer a little more in the way of creature comforts, you can rent one of four remote cabins which, like the campsites, are only accessible by boat. Despite their isolation, you’ll find them fully outfitted with everything from beds to pots and pans, for very reasonable prices.

This lake is perfect for paddling – you’ve probably never been somewhere so peaceful. When it’s just you, your friends or family, and the still lake, you’ll reach a level of relaxation that’s hard to find in today’s world.
