Located on one of those rural country roads in the community of Horatio, is a general store that’s still open and has been since shortly after the Revolutionary War.

Aside from the few items locals need and appreciate not having to travel long distances for, Lenoir Store has a variety of very old items on display, including their post office counter. The folks in the nearby area still count on the Horatio Post Office, located inside Lenoir Store, to handle the mail.

The community of Horatio is an unincorporated place in Sumter County. Originally, it was called Louellen, but was renamed Horatio after Horatio Lenoir.

A visit to the oldest general store in South Carolina (and maybe even the oldest in the country!) is a nostalgic step back in time, and also supports a local community in South Carolina. Lenoir Store is located at 3240 Horatio-Hagood Rd., Horatio, SC 29062. It’s open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The post office is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
