The Lone Star State has quite a few cave systems, but most are commercialized and don’t provide the thrill of discovery. One of our most popular state parks is hiding a secret that few people know about, so you’ll feel like an explorer founding new territory.

Considering the park has 11 miles of trails situated on more than 1700 acres of Hill Country terrain, it’s no wonder most people have never heard of Crystal Cave. The natural wonder is 30-feet deep, much cooler than surface temperatures, and full of glittering crystal - hence its name.

The .62-mile hike takes about 45 minutes and gets fairly steep at certain points. It’s still accessible to most provided appropriate footwear is worn, and the reward is absolutely worth a little sweat.

Plenty of visitors have left their mark on the walls, but not in the best way. Tempting as it may be to etch your name into the secret cavern, park officials ask us all to join them in preserving the area by tampering with it as little as possible.
