Indiana isn’t exactly known for its beaches, but that just means that the beaches we do have tend to stay under-appreciated and unspoiled. When summer gets you craving some beach time, head to Michigan City, where you’ll find miles of beautiful beach and some gorgeous scenery.
Michigan City is nestled right on the banks of Lake Michigan. With just under 32,000 people, this town is big enough to have plenty of amenities, but small enough to keep that hometown feel.

The Old Michigan City Light is one of the last lighthouses you’ll find in Indiana. Built in 1858, this little gem is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Washington Park Beach is the place to be when you’re looking for a large beach with lifeguards to keep you safe. Starting on May 26th, lifeguards will be keeping an eye out on the beach from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Trail Creek circles around the city, through Pottawattamie Park, and emptying into Lake Michigan right by the Old Lighthouse Museum. The creek is a popular spot for kayaking, and if you’re looking for a relaxing activity that will take you inland a bit, this is it.
