One of America’s pastimes in any state, not just West Virginia, is visiting the drive-in. Sometimes they are an under-the-radar type of place, sometimes not so much. And sometimes they are one, then the other. Such is the case with Midway Drive-In.
Since 1939, Midway Drive-In has been a staple of Huntington’s west end. It has gone through several owners since then, but the quality of the food there has remained unchanged.

Midway’s assistant manager, Bill Ghiz, loved Midway since he was a kid and even met his wife there. So, when he took over as co-manager of the business, his love for the place and its food remained very important to him.

Today, Midway is a bustling restaurant that maintains the standard drive-in service. When you pull in, someone will come out to take your order and bring your food out on a tray that securely hooks onto your car door.

Midway serves the typical drive-in fare: burgers and hot dogs. Though most drive-in food is unremarkable, this little-known restaurant, after being in business for more than 70 years, became noticed by the Food Network for their show “Guilty Pleasures” in 2015.

Their juicy hamburgers are a favorite at the drive-in, along with their hot dogs, doused with the southern combination of chili sauce and coleslaw, a staple of West Virginia and the surrounding states.

They also serve beef and pork barbecue sandwiches, other hot sandwiches, chili, corn dogs, and chicken nuggets.

Midway has a large selection of delicious milkshakes, in many flavors, including Vanilla, Strawberry, Hershey’s Chocolate, Black Raspberry, Peanut Butter, Pineapple, Orange Dreamsicle, Chocolate/Peanut Butter, Marshmallow, Banana, and Cherry. They also serve sundaes and root beer floats.
