Getting the gift of winter weather sooner than most other areas of our state, heading up north to the Adirondacks during this time of year will leave you standing in front of a total winter wonderland. If there’s one thing that we always look forward to though, it’s getting out onto our favorite lakes in the Adirondack Park to enjoy activities like ice skating all while having the pleasure of being surrounded by the beautiful mountains.
So, if you’re beginning to plan a winter vacation up north this season – don’t forget to enjoy this magical ice trail that’ll make you feel like one of the characters in Frozen.
Other areas of New York may not be in full winter mode just yet, but up here in the Adirondack Park - things are beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Between the town of Lake Placid hosting the Winter Olympics not once but twice and our extensive history of loving the outdoors, New Yorkers have long been getting out onto frozen over Mirror Lake.

But it wasn’t until the 2013-2014 winter season that the town would decide to clear out a 2-mile-long ice trail around the edges of the lake.

So if you’re ready to enjoy this one-of-a-kind ice trail, head to the Lake Placid Public Beach to find a good entry point to the 2-mile-long loop!
TrpReviwr/TripAdvisor Here are the conditions, the ice on Mirror Lake must be at least 6-inches thick in order for the ice trail to be plowed and cleared out by the town. Once the ice is thick enough on the lake, the arenas and ice trail are open to the public every day of the week, 24-hours a day, and is all free to enjoy.
Like we said above, one of the best entry points to the ice trail loop on Mirror Lake is at the town beach but you can also find other great spots to hop on the trail near Main Street in town as well.
