Getting the gift of winter weather sooner than most other areas of our state, heading up north to the Adirondacks during this time of year will leave you standing in front of a total winter wonderland. If there’s one thing that we always look forward to though, it’s getting out onto our favorite lakes in the Adirondack Park to enjoy activities like ice skating all while having the pleasure of being surrounded by the beautiful mountains.
So, if you’re beginning to plan a winter vacation up north this season – don’t forget to enjoy this magical ice trail that’ll make you feel like one of the characters in Frozen.
Other areas of New York may not be in full winter mode just yet, but up here in the Adirondack Park - things are beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Between the town of Lake Placid hosting the Winter Olympics not once but twice and our extensive history of loving the outdoors, New Yorkers have long been getting out onto frozen over Mirror Lake.

But it wasn’t until the 2013-2014 winter season that the town would decide to clear out a 2-mile-long ice trail around the edges of the lake.

An instantaneous hit that both locals and out-of-town visitors alike came to love, the 2-mile-long ice trail has been a tradition ever since on Mirror Lake.

The ice track is free and open to the public, so all you’ll need to bring is your own pair of skates to get out and enjoy this outdoor activity.

But this ice trail isn’t just for skating, you’ll see plenty of others out on the lake enjoying the outdoors while they’re exploring the loop on their fat tire bikes…

…Or even go for one of the town’s famous dogsled rides that will take you out onto the lake!
