As often as it may feel like that we’re hearing about some of our favorite railroads closing down, there are still plenty of rails to ride here in the Empire State. Recently we spoke about how there’s a handful of charming fall train rides that you can experience while our foliage is out and showing off for all of us residents. But now that we’ve entered the month of October, you might be looking for something a bit more spooky and possibly even hair-raising. That’s where the Rails of Terror come into play!

Departing from Kingston, the Catskill Mountain Railroad is one of our favorite rails to ride here in New York.

Throughout the year, the CMRR features exciting themed rides like their Pumpkin and Polar Express rides that completely transform the railway.

Featured throughout the month of October and just in time for Halloween, this year the railroad has a Rails of Terror ride that is bound to leave you pleasantly frightened.

Instead of visiting your local haunted house for a thrill, try riding on a vintage train car that’s filled with creepy creatures and you’ll even get to learn about some of the area’s local ghosts.
