One of the town’s best-known stories just so happens to be one of the many reasons why Old Cahawba is considered creepy. As the story goes, a couple witnessed a floating orb in the garden area of Colonel C.C. Pegues’ house. This happened right after he was killed during the war. The story soon became known as “Pegues’ Ghost,” and visitors come from all over to see if they can spot the floating orb.
