Mississippi is full of wonderful cities, but according to Money magazine, there’s one that stands out above the rest. Last year, the magazine named Olive Branch the 5th best place to live in the entire country, citing its “high quality of life” and “historic small town atmosphere” as reasons for its ranking. And after a closer look at the city, you’ll probably agree.
Olive Branch is located at Mississippi’s northern border. Though Memphis is just across the state line, Olive Branch seems a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Over the years, the charm of Olive Branch hasn’t gone unnoticed – and the city’s population is proof. In 1990, Olive Branch was home to 3,567; today, the population is 37,500.

It’s no surprise that people love Olive Branch so much because, well, there’s a lot to love. “Good schools, safe streets, family friendly activities, and affordability” are just the tip of the iceberg.

Though the town has grown, it still boasts small town charm. A perfect example is the weekly farmers market held at city hall.

There are also outdoor movie nights, which are held on the lawn of the historic landmark Wesson House.

Even out-of-towners are aware of Olive Branch’s charm, thanks in part to Brussel’s Bonsai – America’s largest bonsai nursery. The 175,000-square-foot nursery hosts a yearly bonsai celebration, which draws visitors from near and far, every Memorial Day Weekend.

Board & Brush is another Olive Branch must visit. An art studio with a twist, visitors can “learn woodworking and painting techniques while sipping wine with friends.”

With plenty to do and the charm of a smaller town, it’s easy to see how Olive Branch made its way onto Money’s list.
