Small town Mississippi is full of hidden gems. In Laurel, the hidden gem is definitely Phillips Drive In. For decades, the eatery has been serving up some great grub, which includes the town’s best burgers. Take a look:

We’re letting the secret out – Phillips Drive In (P.D.I.) serves up some of the best burgers in all of Mississippi.

A longtime local favorite, the Laurel landmark opened as a Dairy Queen in 1948 and changed to P.D.I. in the early 60s.

Though many things have changed throughout the years, one thing that’s remained the same is the burgers at P.D.I.

Consistently delicious and never frozen, it’s no surprise the burgers were voted the best in Laurel.

For a traditional Laurel experience, order the chili burger. Made fresh everyday using a “super secret recipe,” the chili truly is one-of-a-kind.

But don’t be mistaken, the chili goes with much more than the burgers. Add it to hot dogs and sides, like fries and tots.

Speaking of sides, even those are raved about by customers. In addition to fast food classics, like fries, tots, and onion rings, the choices include local favorites, like fried okra.

No drive in menu would be complete without some sweet treats, and P.D.I. is no exception. In addition to thick shakes, the dessert menu includes hand-dipped cones, sundaes, and more.

And just like the drive ins of yesteryear, there’s no inside seating. However, there are a couple of tables outside, so you can dine outdoors if the weather’s nice.

Orders are placed at the walk-up window, adding to the eatery’s vintage feel. Or, if you’d prefer to stay in your air conditioned car, you can pass through the drive-thru to pick up your food.

Made-to-order using fresh ingredients, the food at P.D.I. can’t be beat. Luckily, the drive in is opened six days a week – Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. – so you can easily get your fix when a craving strikes.
