It’s hard to say for sure which of Nebraska’s many historic cemeteries is the most haunted, but this one is certainly at the top of the list. It is the final resting place of many of Nebraska’s early residents, and many people say there are spirits here that never found their eternal rest.
Prospect Hill Cemetery in Omaha dates all the way back to 1858. Within its walls are some 15,000 early Omahans.

Several people of note lay here; notably, Civil War veterans, philanthropists, criminals, and the early families for whom pretty much everything in the city is named.

Omaha’s infamous madame, Anna Wilson, lays here alongside her longtime partner, Dan Allen. (Although they are not said to be among the ghosts roaming the property, their unusual grave is a fascinating place to visit while there.)

But the land’s history goes back much further. It is said to have been a Native American burial ground at one time, and it may also hold the remains of Mormon pioneers who died while passing through. Over the years, many of the graves have been vandalized, and many of the headstones have been lost to time. Others were simply never marked. Some say that this postmortem indignity has created restless spirits.

Ghost hunters come here to find evidence that these early Omahans have never really left. One of the most persistent Prospect Hill ghost stories is that of the Woman in White, a mysterious figure that quietly roams the land. The first sighting of the woman was in 1874.
