Record Breaking Amounts Of Snow Fell In North Dakota October 2018

Winter appears to be coming early for parts of North Dakota that got slammed with snowstorms last week. It may only be mid October, but that isn’t stopping the weather from covering the colorful fall foliage with white! These insane storms have dropped record-breaking amounts of snow, and some people find it hard to believe.

Tons of snow fell over North Dakota last week from October 10-11, 2018. It changed places like the Turtle River State Park from a colorful fall scene to a snowy winter wonderland overnight, shown below in a photo taken at the park on October 11.

Most of the snow fell in the eastern region of the state, and a no travel advisory was issued by the North Dakota Department of Transportation on that Wednesday night due to the blowing snow.

Places like the Grand Forks AFB, Valley City, Cooperstown, and Finley saw a whopping 17 inches of snow fall. Many other towns saw well over a foot of snow, as well.

Due to the wind, snow drifts of 33 inches were recorded in the area. Usually North Dakota doesn’t see this type of snow fall this time of year. In fact, most of these towns had their snowfall records for that time shattered from the storm. Some of these records were nearly a hundred years old.

Places such as Fargo, Lisbon, and Wahpeton saw snow, too, but only half a foot or less - which is still quite a bit for early October.

It certainly gave us quite a sight of the vibrant leaves of fall being coated by a layer of fresh snow. This isn’t something we see every year, for sure!
