November is officially upon us, which means it’s basically Christmas. Around this time each year, the weirdest, most wacky holiday tradition you’ve ever seen starts taking shape in our state. Check it out:

Nobody knows for sure how or why this wacky tradition began, but we can say with absolute certainty that it isn’t going anywhere. Every holiday season, Austinites spread holiday cheer along Loop 360 the only way they know how to: with quirk and whimsy.

Starting right about now, Capitol City residents take to the roadside, armed with tinsel and ornaments, to do their part in the annual custom. Some families even take their Christmas card picture among the festive trees!

Some pay tribute to lost loved ones, others have a clear theme, and plenty are haphazardly decorated with no rhyme or season. There seems to be just one hard-and-fast rule: whatever you do, make sure it’s big and bold enough for passersby to notice (this IS Texas, after all).
