One of many historic places that you can visit within Saratoga County, if you venture just outside of Saratoga Springs and head to the little village of Stillwater you can learn about one of New York’s most famous battlefields. Prepare to be fascinated!
Overlooking the upper Hudson River in an area of Saratoga County where you’re surrounded by nothing but open fields and farmland, Saratoga National Historical Park is one for the books.

The park is most famously known for being where the Battles of Saratoga took place, events that took place in the fall of 1777 and were considered to be the most significant turning point in the Revolutionary War.

Today the park is made up of four parts, including historic homes, a Visitors Center, and the largest part being the Saratoga Battlefield.

All throughout the more than 3,000-acre park, you’ll find informative signs detailing the battles and first point in world history where the British Army had ever surrendered.

During the 18-day battle, more than 500 soldiers were killed between the American and British Armies — with the British losing a total of 440 soldiers and the Americans losing 90.
