Fall is such a great time to hike in Nebraska. The oppressive heat has subsided, the trees are dressed up in lovely colors, and there’s plentiful wildlife to spot. If you’re looking for a short hike the whole family can enjoy, this spot in Gretna is absolutely perfect.
Schramm Park State Recreation Area is one of eastern Nebraska’s prettiest natural areas. In the summer it’s lush, green, and shaded; in the fall, the colorful leaves are just incredible.

There are a few miles of trails to enjoy; the Short Loop trail is just 1.3 miles long and easy enough for the whole family.

Stick to the Short Loop for a quick, easy, and extremely scenic journey. In the fall, the insects have mostly died off and the heavily wooded trail is pleasant even without bug spray.
