Fairy tales always depict the greenest, most magical and lush sounding forests, which can sometimes seem as far-fetched as the story itself, right? While I always thought this, I recently came across a particular forest that almost seems fairy tale-esque but is actually real and actually located right here in South Dakota.
Located in northeast SoDak is the enchanting Sica Hollow State Park, which may just be as legendary as it is beautiful.

Called Sica (meaning bad or evil) by the Dakota, the area was named for its unique red bogs, which the original Natives believed to be the blood of their ancestors.

In addition to this more well-known legend, Sica Hollow is also said to have once been home to peaceful Natives who were fatally flooded out after the tribe prayed for the removal of an evil stranger called Hand.
