As peak fall foliage winds down and winter is on its way, it’s time to think of new ways to appreciate the gorgeous scenery that makes this state so great. If you love finding the autumn colors, you’ve probably taken at least one drive on the Kanc this year. While that’s a great way to soak in the views of New Hampshire, there’s another scenic drive that gives the Kancamagus a run for its money! As the fall foliage becomes snow covered branches, consider a trip on the Sunapee Loop Scenic Drive.
This 140-mile scenic drive winds through the Dartmouth/Lake Sunapee Region for views of some of the most beautiful places in New Hampshire.

You’ll start your trip in the small town of Greenfield in Hillsborough County. To stretch your legs before the journey, consider a quick walk in Greenfield State Park.

From Greenfield you’ll head North on Route 31 through the towns of Antrim and then Hillsborough.

Hillsborough is home to the Franklin Pierce Homestead, home of America’s 14th President, who is also the only U.S. President to come from New Hampshire. This historic spot is worth a planned spot for both the history lesson and the beauty of the park.

Next it’s on to Windsor and Washington, New Hampshire where you’ll have another opportunity for a history lesson.

Washington, New Hampshire is the first town incorporated in America to be named after George Washington. Sure, many followed, but you have to appreciate the Granite State being a cutting edge leader in naming!

Once you’ve gone just south of Goshen you’ll join Route 10.

Next up from here is Newport and Grantham, which is where you’ll make a turn onto Springfield Road followed by Route 114.

After driving through the town of Springfield, the road will head south through New London, which is a college town. From there it’s on to Sutton, Bradford and Henniker.

From Henniker you’ll head east on Route 202 and 209 towards Hopkinton. After that point, take Jewel Rd. (also known as Rout 13) through through Goffstown. Then it’s on to Route 136 leading back to your starting town of Greenfield. And, you’ve done it!
