Waterfalls are a pretty unexpected natural feature in Nebraska; most people would never guess that you could find these impressive formations here in “flat” Nebraska. But we do have some exceptional waterfalls, including Snake Falls: a beautiful but out-of-the-way fall.

Snake River Falls is located southwest of Valentine on, of course, the Snake River.

It’s the largest waterfall by volume in the state, and it’s a truly spectacular sight.

The waterfall is on private property, but don’t let that deter you from visiting. Just pay $1 per visitor and then set out to find this natural wonder.

The hike to get to the falls is what deters most visitors from seeing it up close.

It’s a somewhat treacherous trail, with rocky and uneven terrain. The walk isn’t long, but you do need to be in fairly good condition to tackle it.

If you do put in the effort to find the falls, pay the admission, and hike to it, you’ll be richly rewarded. This sight is unparalleled in all of Nebraska, and the sound of the rushing water is absolutely stunning.
