With more than 70 state parks and recreation areas in Iowa, it’s not hard to find a quiet, beautiful place to enjoy the solitude of nature. Stone State Park is one such place, and once you see it, you’ll want to visit over and over again.

Stone State Park is located in Sioux City, right on the banks of the Big Sioux River. The 1,089-acre state park is a quiet little oasis right near the city.

The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center is a must-visit while you’re here. The address of the center is 4500 Sioux River Rd., Sioux City, IA 51109, and it’s open six days a week. Visit Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; closed Monday.
