Drive-ins are the epitome of nostalgia. Pressing that speaker button on the menu brings back memories of late nights spent laughing and drinking milkshakes with friends during our teenage years, and luckily, there’s a place in Texas where those times can be relived. That restaurant is Storm’s in Lampasas – open since 1950, it’s truly one of the oldest eateries of its kind in the Lone Star State.
The original Storm’s opened its doors 68 years ago in Lampasas, operating as a drive-in only. Two more with inside service were built in the early 80s, located in Burnet and Hamilton.

Legend has it, the king of rock-n-roll himself used to be a regular customer while being stationed at Fort Hood. He would drive up in his Cadillac and order the same thing each time: a burger and strawberry shake.

Although you won’t see Elvis there today, everything about the setup suggests it’s still 1960. A flood of nostalgia will envelop you as you pull up to the menu, reminding you of long-lost summer nights full of laughter and malt shakes.

The menu is extensive while still managing to maintain a simplistic, old-school vibe. Classics like burgers, hot dogs, fries, and tots are the name of the game at Storm’s.

Speaking of burgers, the meat is ground in-house and cooked on a piping hot grill before making its way between two toasty buns, a couple slices of gooey cheese, and all the other fixings. In today’s fast-paced society, this much time and attention - especially in fast food - is virtually unheard of.
