Chimney Rock is arguably the most recognizable sight in Nebraska. It was mentioned in the journals of travelers on the westward pioneer trails and has more recently graced the Nebraska state quarter.

Part of the reason it’s instantly recognizable is because we always see it from the same angle - this one.

The short drone video below takes us all the way up to the apex of the spire for a whole new angle on everyone’s favorite landmark. It gets close enough that you can examine the texture of the rock way up there at the top.

The drone even flies around to the “back,” or the side further away from the visitors’ center that most people don’t get to see. Since the formation itself is on private land and hiking up to it is not allowed, the backside is usually out of sight.

It’s funny how different the monument looks from this vantage point. But we’d recognize Nebraska’s most famous landmark from any angle.
