This extraordinary vessel was originally built for the shallow waters of the Humboldt Bay in 1909. She officially launched into the waters in 1910, making it the oldest passenger carrying vessel in continuous service in the United States.

Today, the Madaket hosts narrated cruises every single day. The 8.5-mile cruise takes you all across the Humboldt Bay while the Captain explains everything about local history, industries, and points of interest. Pictured below is the iconic Fishermen’s Statue.

Along the way, you’ll spot all kinds of wildlife that call the bay their home. Migratory birds can often be spotted soaring through the sky above the ferry boat. Seals are also often spotted in the waters and on the shores.

The Historically Narrated Cruises last approximately 75 minutes, making it the perfect way to kill some time the next time you’re exploring Eureka. Wednesday through Saturday they are held at 1:00, 2:30, and 4:00 pm. Sunday through Tuesday they are held at 1:00 and 2:30 pm.

If you really want to spice things up, definitely consider attending the Cocktail Cruise which occurs Wednesday through Saturday at 5:30 pm. The one-hour cruise isn’t narrated, so you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the bay while gulping down a drink from the “smallest licensed bar in California”.
