Exploring Oregon’s wild natural places is a great break from everyday stresses, but sometimes it’s hard to find the time to drive very far to find adventure. If you’re lucky enough to live in or near Cottage Grove, you’ll find a beautiful bike trail that starts right in the middle of the downtown area.

The Row River Trail is located in Cottage Grove, just south of Eugene. Access the trail at 10th and Main Street, or any of several trailheads along the loop trail.

This beautiful, paved trail makes a 32-mile-long loop that’s perfect for cyclists of all ages and abilities. You can also hike along this path; just stay to the right and pay close attention to avoid collisions with cyclists.

The word “row” in the trail’s name is pronounced like “cow.” The name came about when two men disagreed over grazing rights in the area. In this case, the word “row” means “quarrel” or “dispute.”

This area may have a contentious past, but now it’s certainly one of the most beautiful, peaceful places you’ll find. You’ll travel over several bridges along the way…

Watch for interpretive signs along the trail. In some sections, you’ll find monarch butterflies flitting about.
